We strive to deliver returns for members and partners while positively shaping the communities in which we invest. Here is the OMERS Infrastructure 2022 story.
We completed 11 transactions totaling almost CAD$9 billion, a record for us.
We invested further in energy transition and mobility
We completed our acquisition of Navisun LLC, an independent distributed generation solar power producer in the US.
We invested to add clean energy generation capacity at our existing portfolio companies Bruce Power in Ontario and Leeward Renewable Energy in the US.
We entered the renewables industry in Europe through our investment in Groendus. It was our first-ever investment in the Netherlands, and our first European example of Growth Infrastructure.
With two partners, we acquired Direct ChassisLink Inc., one of the largest chassis providers in the US. DCLI became our eighth global investment in transportation and mobility.
We entered into a partnership with Spring Lane Capital to invest in and scale businesses in North America that address sustainability.
We accelerated our investments in digital infrastructure and Asia-Pacific
In Australia, we acquired TPG’s mobile tower and rooftop portfolio, marking our entry into digital infrastructure in Asia-Pacific.
Within two months, we acquired a second digital infrastructure Australian firm, Stilmark.
On completion, we combined both businesses and created Waveconn. It’s now the largest independent tower company in Australia, with more than 1,400 mobile towers.
Waveconn is also our third digital asset globally, alongside investments in France and Germany.
We also supported the growth of our Indian road business – IndInfravit – which reached an agreement to acquire an additional 5 roads, taking its total in the country to 18.
We exited investments that are no longer a strategic fit
We sold our stakes in GNL Quintero, SGN, Confederation Bridge, Midland Cogeneration Venture, and Chicago Skyway as these companies enter the next phase in their journeys.
We are proud of our many portfolio company achievements
We continued to invest new capital across our portfolio, and partnered with our portfolio companies to lead change and build value.
After 10 years of development and construction, the East-West Tie Transmission Line, a 450 km transmission line in Northwestern Ontario, reached commercial operation providing the region with 94% clean electricity.
Bruce Power, in Canada, achieved successful production of the first Lutetium-177 medical isotope, which will be used for cancer treatments around the world.
Leeward Renewable Energy, in the US, reached commercial operations on Aragonne Mesa, a 235 MW greenfield wind and wind repowering project.
FRV Australia energised its first hybrid solar and storage project (Dalby Solar Project) and reached FID on the 350MW Walla Walla Solar development, one of the largest solar plants in New South Wales.
Associated British Ports announced a partnership with Air Products on a large-scale, green hydrogen production facility at the Port of Immingham.
Looking ahead
Thank you to our team, partners and portfolio companies for their dedication and collaboration this year.
80+ investing colleagues. 32 companies. 15 Strategic Partners. CAD$32 billion AUM. One proud year.
